The research unit Sport and Body Culture works with cultural analytical studies of sport and body culture with a focus on elite sports and body cultural extremes. In other words the unit has confronted the illusion that it is possible to be specialised in all areas of research in sport and body culture. Instead the unit has come together to generate knowledge and expertise in contemporary sport and body culture. The simultaneous focus on both sport and body culture is based on a belief that sport does not exist as a limited subset of body culture. Both sport and body culture are dynamic and inconstant entities and exchanges between the two are constantly taking place. With a focus on the astonishing and fascinating sides of sport and body culture the unit wants to bring to light the attraction, meaning and societal values and consequences of these phenomena.
